We thought it would be meaningful and fun to invite you to share your thoughts and opinions alongside ours, here on this blog. Instead of just letting us know, we want you to tell those stories to everyone. If it’s meaningful to you, chances are good that it will be meaningful to someone else… here in this more-connected/ more dis-connected land of the internet.

Funny Story From The House of Blues (CH)

August 10, 2009  |  blogs, news, potpourri, publicity, vlogs  |  No Comments

The world changes. We were at the House of Blues this week. We had a great show with the full band, Chris Giambelluca on bass and Nadim Shehab on drums. Well, I say "great," because it was fun and light and memorable. Perhaps not so great because my voice started to lose itself and jump to other notes I did not want it to go to. Like I was 13 again. "Sing, sing, squaaaawk, sing, sing." Anyway. Fun show. Playing with our friends, the Nikhil Korula Band. We walked in and they were sound-checking, we waved hello and set our gear down. We've played with them three times before, they're great guys and we like to pal around; so naturally I felt like a jerkstore when I realized I'd forgotten the saxophone player's name. I turn to Nadim: "Hey, dude, can you do me a favor?" "Sure." "Over the course of the evening, can you figure...

Fear and Loathing in Las Marketplace (CH)

July 31, 2009  |  blogs  |  No Comments

I'm at the kitchen table, rocking the laptop, calling A-list band managers while my younger brother is busy making calls to get a late-summer job. He's looking for work in chemistry, or perhaps as a pharmacy tech. Meanwhile I'm going through the metaphorical Rolodex calling music industry bad aces to get them to chat for a few minutes on the phone, or *gasp* come see us play live. And even though we're clearly on different career paths, the story is pretty much the same. What he hears: "Yeah, we're not hiring right now... uh... I don't think any of our locations are hiring. I think we're laying people off... yeah... crap." At which point I overhear my brother say, "Yeah... that's ok... good luck keeping your job," He regroups, and makes another call. "It's a learning experience," I say. "Yeah, I learned nobody is hiring." No one has money right now, I think. And...

Change Your Blog, Change Your Life (CH)

June 16, 2009  |  blogs, news  |  No Comments

According to Dr. Farvin Blogsalot, Ph. D. "unsearchable, slow-loading, untagged blogs have been clinically linked to an increase in 'Screwthisimgoingtoyoutube Sydrome' among young adults aged 3 to 79." Naturally, we here in Ryanhood want to do our part to battle the destructive forces of Screwthisimgoingtoyoutube Sydrome, so we have transfered all awesome and amazing blog content from myspace to ryanhood.com/blog. You know us, always wanting to lend a hand. Our new blog is well-organized, tagged, and easily-searchable. Want to know in which videos Ryan plays mandolin? Search "mandolin". Or want to read long diatribes where I rant about spirituality? Search: "spirituality". Or simply want to know what it was like making "The World Awaits"? Then search "recording studio" and all blogs, vlogs, studio journals, and videos that have anything to do with the recording studio will appear. "Wait, wait," you say, "This is so complicated." I know, I know. But you can do...

What Do You Know?… (CH)

November 29, 2008  |  blogs  |  No Comments

...THAT WE SHOULD KNOW? We've noticed some things: Record labels don't rule the roost like they once did, and fewer and fewer of us are listening to mainstream radio. The old system is on it's last legs, BUT people are listening to more music than ever... So, it's time to get creative! As we plan the release of our new CD "The World Awaits" we'd like your help in inventing creative ways to get this music to as many people as possible. So many of you have been expressing such overwhelming support for our songs, our sound, and our live shows, that we feel like it's time to give you the chance to speak to us, and for us; to help us become what so many of you have told us we could become. We want to know the best way to get the word out, and we'd like you to tell...

Where The Streets Have No Name (CH)

January 10, 2006  |  blogs  |  No Comments

I’m feeling my limits. And I’m unsatisfied. I’m feeling them, I’m up next to them, I’m touching them, with my face to the glass and my fingerprints smearing all over them. I’m breathing and I’m thinking and I’m scheming, I’m desiring, I’m wanting to break them all over the floor. I’m wanting to run I’m wanting to hide I’m wanting to tear down the walls that hold me inside. But *&^exclamations!!$~.& if I’m not feeling my limits. Anyone have exceeding talents in Flash, or website design, or video-making and editing? Drop me a line. Show me your work. Prove yourself to me. Don’t be shy. Believe you can. I’m serious. This is a call. I want to make music. I want it to be great. I want to write the greatest words I’ve ever heard. I want to make melodies that move me. I want to sing over vast open chords, and...
